Excerpted from The Examiner: On Friday, C.J. Pearson, a 12-year-old conservative from Georgia who posted a viral video supporting Rudy Giuliani, discovered that his personal Facebook page was locked. In an exclusive interview with Examiner.com on Saturday, Pearson said he received a message from someone about 6 a.m. Friday. That’s when he learned his account and page had been locked for “suspicious activity.”

You can’t fix it

You have to read these

Griffin Paul Jackson

It must be one of the worst feelings in the world to watch from the street as a building burns, or to watch from the shore as a ship sinks. You think, If only I could throw enough water on it. Or, If only I could swim fast enough. But no fire extinguisher or life raft you have will do the job.

The same is true in other parts of life.

There are some habits you just can’t break on your own. There are some relationships you just can’t save.

At least not now. At least not in this way.

It’s a terrible feeling. All this helplessness. You might respond by overthinking or people-pleasing or pretending nothing is wrong. You will map out every possible strategy for success.

If only I say the right words.

If only I work hard enough.

If only I am smart enough…

What Terrible Things Love Can Do

image

I saw her and I knew,
right then and there,
That what they say is true,
life isn’t fair.

She once was bright and beautiful
and so full of life.
But she was a fool
and lived to be his wife.

She lost herself
behind the curtain of him
and when he left,
it was like she forgot how to swim.

He threw her off of his ship
and left her stranded in the sea
with only a prayer that the tides don’t rip
and no idea of what her future may be.

Once he was gone,
she was too.
The platform she stood on
had fallen through.

She slowly faded
under the lights of depression.
Now she’s jaded
and holds and unfamiliar expression.

When my eyes fell upon her,
I thought that they were lying
or that my vision was blurred.
But it was clear, she had been dying.

Inadequate

The Forgotten Anon Girl

Human nature is such
All you need is much
Whatever you have is less
You always stay in a mess.

Content are few
Not in search of something new
Values are not valuable enough
To assess the available stuff

Love is inadequate
So are the feelings.
Words are inadequate,
So is the meaning.

Inadequate is normal now
Sufficient will lead to a ‘wow’
Its wise to find sufficiency
In all sorts of inadequacy.

Contentment cannot be bought
It comes from within the heart.
It is a form of acceptance,
Without any reluctance.

It is a sign of maturity,
That overlooks all scarcity.
It’s not the end of life ,
It’s the glimpse of a new light.

On Malcolm, Martin and that X-Men Analogy Thing

Phenderson Djèlí Clark

malcolmmagnetoOn the 50th anniversary of the assassination of the activist, orator and the man once referred to in eulogy by the late Ossie Davis as “Our Shining Black Prince,” El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz (most commonly known as Malcolm X), I quite foolishly decide to wade into that whole X-Men analogy thingy. Of course I’ve been warned. Of course I know better. But since when has that stopped me? So then, let’s do this thing.

And that supremely bad ass Malcolm & Magneto mash-up art you’re seeing, is courtesy of the amazing John Jennings and his 2012-2013 exhibit Black Kirby. If yuh dunno, now yuh know.

Closing the book

chanyado

You get married and you think this is the man you will spend the rest of your life with.

Then life happens.

You separate, and for the next three years you don’t see him. You don’t hear his voice. The soft lilt in his Rs. You don’t see him ruffled up in the morning before he puts on his armour to face the world. You don’t smell him in the corridor before you leave the house. You don’t see his name pop up on your phone. You don’t know what song he belts out as he drives with the window down and Bluetooth earpiece on. You don’t know what person he thinks is a complete muppet. You don’t hear the word muppet anymore. You never have to put the toilet seat down.

You begin to wonder if you dreamed the whole thing up.

The waves now wash over you once every…
